Why I'm writing...

Why I'm Writing This Blog

Hi my name is Adam.  I have had a very unique educational experience.  My parents were both in the military, which required moving throughout the US.  I experienced public, private and charter school systems in Virginia, Mississippi, Nebraska, Texas and Georgia.  Although I moved strictly through the US, there was a lot of variation in culture and practice between the states as well as through the different school systems.  Upon graduating high school in Atlanta, I went on to Trinity University in San Antonio.  While there I earn my bachelors degree in Marketing with a minor in Studio Art.
After some time doing entry level and retail jobs I jumped at the opportunity to teach abroad in the Korean public school system, where I taught for nearly three years in both public elementary and middle schools.  This gave me an even wider perspective on education and student potential.  Upon returning from Korea I returned to Trinity University where I went on to earn my Master of Arts in Teaching.  While there I learned a lot about teaching pedagogy and educational theory.

Upon graduation I was eager to get started in my own classroom.  I was also looking for a challenge, but bit off more than I could chew.  In my first year I worked at two different title one schools.  Due to numerous unforeseen challenges, I was not able to complete a full year in the classroom.  For those who don’t know title one schools are located in low income areas and bring with it many challenges that are not present in other schools. Even though I don’t yet have a full year of teaching in an American classroom, I learned a lot from both experiences.   I want to share my thoughts in hopes that the information may help others.

My goal for this blog is to create a space for positive dialogue on possible implications for decisions being made in education.  I may even touch on topics that have an indirect effect on our schools.   While I have had a wide variety of experiences in education, there is no way that I can see things from every angle.  So please feel free to comment with your feedback or with links to articles that could add to the conversation.  Hopefully the information can help me and you in our pursuit of creating a positive learning environment for all children.  Thank you for visiting my blog!
